As experts in commercial screen printing we often get asked What is screen printing? Custom screen printing is one of the oldest forms of printing and is thought to have been around since 960AD.
Screen printing works by coating a mesh screen with a photo sensitive emulsion. When the emulsion has dried to the screen a positive film is then placed on the underside of the of it. The screen is then put into a light box and exposed to UV light.
Exposing the emulsion to UV light cures the emulsion into a solvent and water resistant coating, apart from where the positive film was placed.
When the screen has been exposed the film is removed and the screen can be rinsed with water. This washes away the uncured emulsion where the film was.
Finally the screen is set up on the machine and when ready to print the screen is flooded with ink and then a squeegee is used to push the ink through the stencil onto the desired substrates.
Custom screen printing is a very versatile method of printing. It allows for a wide range of substrates to be printed with specialty inks and colours which are hard to replicate or in some cases impossible to do with litho or digital print.

Key Features:
Screen printing has the potential to be environmentally friendly if done correctly. The utilisation of water-based inks, devoid of harmful chemicals, offers a sustainable alternative to solvent-based inks, thereby minimising the environmental impact.
While screen printing is best suited for bold, solid designs, it is possible to achieve detailed designs with the right technique. The level of detail that can be achieved depends on factors like screen mesh count, ink type, and the skill of the printer. For highly intricate designs or photographic prints, other printing methods such as digital printing or litho printing may be more suitable.
Whether you aim for attention-grabbing boldness or subtle tonal nuances, screen print possesses the ability to captivate the eye. Opting for screen print ensures that your design truly stands out. The remarkable vibrancy and polished finish achievable through this method can transform a plain item into a captivating work of art or a powerful marketing tool.
Screen printing stands out for its ability to produce exceptionally high-quality designs. This technique enables the use of incredibly vibrant colours with high accuracy, making it an ideal choice to ensure your logo stands out prominently.
